The Philippines held the 122nd Independence Day last June 12, 2020. The battle against COVID-19 is, after all, prominent in this year’s government-crafted theme: “Kalayaan 2020: Tungo sa Bansang Malaya, Nagbabayanihan, at Ligtas” (Towards a Free, United, and Safe Nation).
This year’s celebration of 122nd Independence Day on United Arab Emirates (UAE) was done viritually, by Filipino Community Leaders. The show was filled of different kinds of entertainment with touch of Philippine culture, it includes live hosting, games and pre-recorded cultural performances. These are all done for the Filipino expats to feel that they can still celebrate and be patriotic even they are in other country.
At the same time UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and other leaders also greeted Philippine’s President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for the celebration of Independence Day.
The tallest building in the world Burj Khalifa flashed the Philippine flag on its LED Display at 9:15pm, this was the second time that the Philippine flag was shown on the facade of the famous tower, to give support for the Filipino community in UAE.
